While this Raven is packaged in the same case as its forerunner, the squared (yet curved) case is about all that will be recognizable from its archetype. The new Diablo is assimilated as a recreational watch although it doubles as a timepiece that delivers a level of craftsmanship worthy of the “Fine Luxury” title. To meet the highest standards of durability, the new Raven three-piece case is constructed from the finest 316L surgical-grade stainless steel and features two of the most shatterproof crystals available in watchmaking today made from Krysterna™! As the leader of the antagonist’s menagerie in Sleeping Beauty, Diablo the raven is an exquisite bird notwithstanding his malefic associations; and Stührling Original’s latest addition to the Raven Series of the same name is just crowing with its own attractive details and stunning allure. A skeletonized mechanical automatic timepiece, the Raven Diablo’s frontal look is distinguished by its magnificent four-piece dial! With a rich black carbon-fiber wrap on the open dial as its base, topped by two distinctly separate face-plates (secured by seven functioning micro-screws), then surrounded by an angled flange with color-coordinated or luminous dot hour-markers and minute markers that jut out marking every ten minutes, the fancywork of the dial in concert with the skeletonized engine creates a look and persona of a timepiece thirty times the price-tag of this masterpiece! The persona of Raven Diablo is further characterized on its face by the clear view of the balance wheel beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour at the nine o’clock position, the pallet fork releasing energy to the drive-train by bobbing up and down, the mainspring revealing if there is sufficient power to drive this timepiece, hand-engraved scrolling on what little remains of the top-plates, and the stylish hands starring the sweep center seconds-hand with the Stührling “S” on its tail! Flip this bird over and as you look through the curved Krysterna™ crystal set into the screw-down decorated case-back on the reverse, you will see the 20-jewel mechanical automatic movement in all its splendor with its black ionic plated skeletonized, hand-engraved, rotor and back plates accented by blued steel screws. The Raven Diablo is filled with enough minutiae for several timepieces, but with its 42-millimeter square case acting as a base for the round beveled bezel bordering the round dial and the four Stührling “S” screw-heads smartly placed in the four corners, the overall look presented comprises one on the hottest looks in the entire watch industry! Functionality is not lost on this bird either. The Damier style texturing on the crown allows for ease of winding and setting the watch; the slight curvature of the backside of the case and case-back provides extreme comfort on the wrist, and the 28-1/2 millimeter wide, five millimeter thick, tapered silky smooth, yet tough, high-grade silicon rubber strap secures the Raven Diablo to your wrist with as much support and wearability as any watch in Stührling’s entire gallery of timepieces!
